Plastic Surgery and Burns Clinic
The Plastic Surgery and Burns Clinic, unique within the National Health System (ESY), is the final referral centre for the management of rare congenital or acquired anomalies, malformations and childhood accidents.
Purpose and Activities
Regular cases covering the full spectrum of paediatric plastic surgery are seen in the outpatient clinics:
- Congenital anomalies, e.g. cleft lip, jaw and palate, auricular aplasia, ptosis
- Malformations of the genital organs and limbs
- Syndromes, e.g. Down, Treacher Collins, Moebius, Pierre Robin
- Vascular malformations and haemangiomas
Childhood burns requiring specialised knowledge of the child’s pathophysiology
Surgical Work
Emergency and scheduled surgical procedures are performed for a wide range of conditions:
- Correction of congenital anomalies, including cleft lip and palate, syndactyly, microphthalmia and auricular aplasia
- Correction of injuries and post-burn scars
- Procedures for tumours and cysts of the face, trunk and limbs
- Procedures involving soft tissues and genital organs
- Use of skin grafts and tissue expanders
- Procedures for vascular malformations, haemangiomas and lymphangiomas
- Plastic surgery procedures of the ear and eyelids
- Management of giant naevi and congenital malformations
Technical Equipment
- Nd:YAG Laser for haemangiomas and nodules.
- Surgitron device with 4.0 MHz Dual Frequency for specialised procedures.
- Complete set of surgical instruments, including microsurgical instruments.
- Magnifying loupes, medium- and large-sized microscopes.
Scientific Activity
The Clinic has strong scientific activity, with a large number of presentations, announcements and lectures at Greek and international conferences, as well as participation in the authorship of scientific publications.
