Department of Immunology & Histocompatibility

The Department of Immunology & Histocompatibility has many years of experience in the diagnosis and follow-up of Immunological Diseases in children, with particular expertise in Primary Immunodeficiencies.

In addition, it provides laboratory support in areas such as Haematopoietic Cell Transplantation and Paediatric Haematology.

Paediatric Immunology Outpatient Clinic

Outpatient Clinic
  • Investigation of the immune system in children with infections, lymphoproliferation, autoimmune or allergic diseases.
  • Follow-up and treatment of children with immunodeficiency from all over Greece.
  • Consultation for physicians of all specialties nationwide.
  • Training of patients and guardians in the subcutaneous administration of gamma globulin.
Sample Receipt

The Department receives samples from the Hospital’s paediatric clinics, other hospitals and outpatients.

Sample receipt hours: 7:30 – 14:30 (working days)

Important exceptions:

  • For Flow Cytometry & Cell Culture: Prior arrangement is required by calling 213 2013765.
  • For Autoantibodies: Prior communication is required by calling 213 2013762-3.
  • Quantiferon samples: Accepted only on working days, provided that the following day is also a working day.
Quality & Certifications
  • Accreditation by ESYD (ISO 15189:2022 / 1180-2)
  • European accreditation by EFI (08-GR-005-995)
  • Continuous quality control with international reference centres
Modern methods: NGS, RT-PCR, multicolour Flow Cytometry with 15–24 parameters, IFA, ELISA, Line-Blot, CLIA.
Scientific Activities
  • Participation in and organisation of international and nationwide conferences.
  • Presentations and publications in scientific journals.
  • Inspections as accredited inspectors in laboratories in Greece and abroad.
  • Training of students and physicians, and participation in postgraduate programmes and doctoral theses.
