The Microbiology Department of “Agia Sofia” Children’s Hospital provides comprehensive laboratory services for the diagnosis of infectious diseases, supporting both inpatient and outpatient care for paediatric patients. It includes conventional microbiology units for cultures and antimicrobial susceptibility testing, a serology laboratory, and a molecular biology laboratory equipped with modern molecular diagnostic techniques for the rapid detection of infectious agents.

The Department works closely with all clinical units of the Hospital, contributing to timely diagnosis, the appropriate use of antimicrobial agents, and the prevention and surveillance of healthcare-associated infections.
