Neurosurgery Clinic
The Paediatric Neurosurgery Clinic of “Agia Sophia” is the largest in the country, providing full coverage of the spectrum of paediatric neurosurgical conditions.
It is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment, including neuronavigation, neuromonitoring, microscope, endoscope, intraoperative ultrasound and CUSA.
Conditions Treated
- Hydrocephalus conditions, including neonatal hydrocephalus and haemorrhage of prematurity
- Neuroendoscopy, including ventriculostomy, multiloculated hydrocephalus, arachnoid cyst and aqueductal stenosis
- Neuro-oncology of the brain and spine
- Pituitary tumours, using an endoscopic transnasal–transsphenoidal approach
- Vascular conditions, including arteriovenous malformations and cavernous angiomas
- Craniosynostoses, both simple and syndromic
- Spinal dysraphism, including lipomas, tethered cord and myelomeningoceles
- Chiari syndrome
- Drug-resistant epilepsy, including VNS placement and oncological epilepsy surgery
- Limb spasticity, including SDR
The Clinic covers the Hospital’s on-call duties, managing the full spectrum of traumatic brain injuries.
Regular Outpatient Clinics
They operate by appointment every Tuesday, 11:00 – 13:00.
Collaborations
The Clinic collaborates with the Oncology Departments of “ELPIDA” Hospital and with international centres, such as the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (PA, USA).
Weekly oncology boards are held.

Regular lectures and presentations for residents and students.
4 annual part-time training positions for residents, covering the full spectrum.
