The University Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Clinic of Athens, at the Medical School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens at "Agia Sofia" Children's Hospital, began operating in 1978 under the name "Department of Psychological Pediatrics." The Department was transformed into a University Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Clinic of the Medical School of the University of Athens (protocol number A 1α/14023/98 Government Gazette) headed by Associate Professor of Child Psychiatry Mr. Ioannis Tsiantis. From February 2025, it was integrated into the National Mental Health Services Network (1st Health Region). Throughout these years, the Clinic has developed extensive clinical, educational, and research work.
Main Activities
I. Clinical Work
- Diagnostic assessment and treatment of children and adolescents up to 16 years of age
- Support, counseling, and treatment for their families
II. Educational Work
- Theoretical and practical training of undergraduate and postgraduate students of Medicine, Psychology, and other related University Departments
- Training of resident physicians in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry
- Operation of the Postgraduate Study Program “Mental Health and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry” of the Medical School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA)
III. Prevention & Mental Health Promotion
- Implementation of community-based actions for the prevention and promotion of mental health
IV. Research Work
- Participation in national and international research programs in the field of Child and Adolescent Mental Health
