Purpose and Activities of the Department
The Emergency Department operates in a fully renovated area, as an interdepartmental department, and provides services to all patients during the Hospital’s on-call days and hours.
- Cases are managed according to severity, following assessment through the Triage system.
- Assessment is carried out by on-call physicians and nurses, also taking into account referrals from external colleagues.
During on-call duty, the following services operate:
- Paediatric Emergency Department
- Paediatric Surgery Emergency Department
- Paediatric Orthopaedic Emergency Department
- ENT
- Ophthalmology
- Child Psychiatry
with support from all other specialties, depending on needs.
Educational Activities
- Residents from all departments of the Hospital receive training in the Department.
- Nurses of various levels, as well as medical and nursing students, also receive training.
Emergency Department Training Programme
Objective:
Paediatric preparedness of physicians and nurses in paediatric emergencies.

1. Triage System in Paediatrics / Introduction to the Emergency Department and the Resuscitation Room
2. Critically ill child in the Emergency Department – ABCDE approach
3. Introduction to the Paediatric Airway – Hands-on Training in Paediatric Airway Management
4. Intravenous and Intraosseous Access – Medications in the Emergency Department – ECG in the Emergency Department
5. Clinical Scenarios using Simulation – Resuscitation Protocols
Duration: 6 months
