Otorhinolaryngology Clinic – Audiology Department
The Otorhinolaryngology (ENT) Clinic of the “Agia Sophia” Children’s Hospital is the oldest and largest clinic in Greece dedicated exclusively to children.
It is a referral centre, serving patients not only from Greece but also from Southeastern Europe. The high level of specialisation of its staff ensures the management of the full spectrum of paediatric ENT conditions to a high standard, in accordance with international standards.
The Department is involved in the diagnosis of hearing loss through specialised examinations, as well as the rehabilitation and follow-up of children with all types and degrees of hearing loss, approximately 2,000 children annually.
Services & Examinations
- Speech and language assessment and follow-up
- Psychological support for children and families through a multidisciplinary team
- Audiological examinations: tympanometry, otoacoustic emissions, evoked potentials
- Audiograms performed with the children’s cooperation
Particular emphasis is placed on early diagnosis by the age of 6 months and on the rehabilitation of childhood hearing loss, to support the child’s smooth psychosocial development.
The Department works closely in the diagnosis and follow-up of children with:
- Child Psychiatry Clinic
- Oncology Clinics
- Mediterranean Anaemia Department
- Teaching of Otorhinolaryngology to medical students, NKUA.
- Training and specialisation of ENT physicians in audiology-related subjects.
- Authoring of articles and presentation of research papers
